Adventures in Burkina

Join me as I embark on a journey and prepare to move to West Africa for a 27-month stint with the Peace Corps. This is one volunteer's tale of life on other side of the pond. The contents of this website are mine and do not reflect any position of the US government or the Peace Corps.

Where in the World is Burkina Faso??

The number one most frequently asked question that I've heard over the past few months (besides "are you crazy") is, "where is Burkina Faso?" Rather than explaining that it is a landlocked country, sandwiched between Mali, Niger, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Benin and Togo, I have decided to attach a map so that you can for yourselves. For more information on Burkina Faso, visit http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/country_profiles/1032616.stm

Tomorrow is the beginning of Staging here in Philadelphia. It is a two-day event before we leave for Africa on Tuesday. At staging is where I will meet the others that I will be working with while in Burkina, I receive all of my vaccinations and I will receive some very high level information about life in Africa. The ins and outs of sanitizing my drinking water, how to change the breaks on my bike and how to pound millet into an eatable form will all be covered in-country. Should be quite an adventure...

Hi Yvette. It was great to see you last week, although the circumstances were less than favorable. You've grown into a beautiful young lady, and I am extremely proud of you and your strength to accomplish the things you're doing. Keep your chin up and God will continue to shine upon you!
